Game Over and Restart Flow

Slope is built around short feedback cycles: a mistake ends the run, then another attempt begins quickly.

Quick answer

Game over is the feedback point between Slope runs. Use the restart quickly, but carry one specific cause into the next attempt so instant retry does not become instant repetition.

Identify the first unrecoverable moment

The final collision may be obvious, but the useful cause can be earlier: a bad entry, an overlong hold, a landing near the edge or late visual recognition. Review that moment before pressing restart.

Separate technical interruptions

If the frame freezes, loses focus or reloads unexpectedly, do not count that as a normal gameplay failure. Fix the browser or provider problem first so your practice data reflects actual decisions.

Use one change per restart

Choose a single adjustment for the next run. For example: look one feature farther ahead, release the key sooner after a dodge, or enter ramps from a calmer line. Multiple simultaneous changes make the result hard to interpret.

Fast retry is valuable when the lesson is clear

Slope’s short loop makes deliberate practice efficient. You can test the same cue repeatedly without a long setup phase, but only if each attempt has a purpose beyond “try harder”.

Apply Game Over and Restart Flow in a normal run

Use a short block of runs to translate the idea into a cue you can actually recognize while the ball is moving. For Game Over and Restart Flow, keep the first visible principle in mind: Identify the first unrecoverable moment. Then use separate technical interruptions as the second checkpoint, so the test covers both the initial choice and what follows from it.

Use one normal run to identify the common failure, one practice run to move the response earlier, and one confirmation run to see whether the new timing still works when the route changes. If the third run requires a completely different rescue, the technique may not be stable yet.

Judge progress by repeatability. One successful pass proves only that the line was possible; several calmer exits show that the decision is becoming reliable. Once that reliability appears, return to normal score attempts and see whether the habit survives without conscious rehearsal.

Normal vs abnormal restart

A restart should begin a clean new attempt

Historical community reporting describes older sessions where repeated input after death could leave the game in abnormal states. That material belongs in version history, not in the normal control instructions.

For current play, treat a restart as healthy only when the new run returns to the expected track and input state. If it does not, close/reload the client instead of assuming the broken state is a gameplay mechanic.
